It's a fact of life that the business of making babies is 99% woman's work. And it's a full-time job with no time off, including weekends and holidays. But despite the challenging working conditions, most women agree that the “completion bonus” makes it all worthwhile!
PREGNANT 妊娠している
- A woman is pregnant when she carries a baby inside her body.
Pregnancy is the condition of being pregnant.
Be Careful! Although in Japan they say a woman is pregnant for 10 months, in English-speaking countries the period is usually counted as 9 months. - pregnant は、女性の体内に赤ちゃんがいる、つまり、妊娠している、という意味です。
pregnancy は、妊娠、という意味です。
注意:日本では、妊娠している期間は10か月といわれますが、英語圏の国では、普通9か月といわれます。
- (woman to husband)
I have something to tell you. ... I'm pregnant! - When I was pregnant with my first child, I was sick almost every morning.
- My wife is 7 months pregnant. I can't believe I'm about to become a father!
- a: Andy got his girlfriend pregnant.
b: You're kidding! Do his parents know yet? - (to a friend, while getting up from his seat on the train)
I'm going to give my seat to that pregnant woman over there. - It's a good idea to avoid flying during the first few months of pregnancy.
- The number of teenage pregnancies has been decreasing over the years.
- (doctor to young woman)
The pregnancy test was positive (= it shows that you ARE pregnant).
Now the long wait begins!
