Today's LessonCATEGORY:

  • A sidewalk is a path with a hard surface for people to walk on that is along, and slightly higher than, a road.

Be Careful! If a path is NOT higher than the road, but only separated from the road by a painted line, we usually do NOT call it a sidewalk.

  1. (father to 7-year-old son)
Stay on the sidewalk, Peter. You don't want to get hit by a car, do you?
  2. There aren't any sidewalks in our neighborhood, but fortunately traffic is light.
  3. The sidewalks were crowded with street performers and spectators.
  4. We spent the afternoon at a sidewalk cafe, watching the people walk by.
