Explanation

  • If something you hope for, wish for, or dream of comes true, it happens.

    A dream come true is something you have long wished for that actually happens.
  • come true は、望んだり、願ったり、夢見ていることが実現する、という意味です。

    dream come true は、長い間望んでいたことが実現する、つまり、夢がかなう、という意味です。

  1. (after a friend blows out the candles on a birthday cake)
    a: What did you wish for?
    b: If I tell you, it won't come true.
  2. (discussing a Jane Austen novel)
    a: Does the story have a happy ending?
