Regardless of where they're from, there's at least one thing all Olympic athletes share - BIG DREAMS!
(A DREAM) COME TRUE (夢が)かなう、実現する
- If something you hope for, wish for, or dream of comes
true, it happens.
A dream come true is something you have long wished for that actually happens. - come true は、望んだり、願ったり、夢見ていることが実現する、という意味です。
dream come true は、長い間望んでいたことが実現する、つまり、夢がかなう、という意味です。
- (after a friend blows out the candles on a
birthday cake)
a: What did you wish for?
b: If I tell you, it won't come true. - (discussing a Jane Austen novel)
a: Does the story have a happy ending?
b: Of course. All that she hopes for comes true. - Ever since I was a child, I've dreamed of living in Hawaii. And now that dream is about to come true.
- (Olympic athlete)
Of course I'd like to win a medal, but just making it to the Olympics is a dream come true.
Take care!
