Today's WordMaster used to be essential equipment for a day on the slopes, but no longer. Snowboarders prefer to travel light!
SKI POLE
- A ski pole is a long, thin, straight piece of metal, fiberglass, or carbon fiber with a “basket” (= a round piece of plastic to stop the pole from sinking into the snow) near the bottom. It is used, two at a time, to help keep your balance, turn, and increase your speed while skiing.
- She broke one of her ski poles when she fell on the intermediate slope.
- Ski poles are especially important in the slalom, an event in which you do a lot of quick turning.
- a: Where are your ski poles?
b: I'm a snowboarder, remember? I don't use poles.
See you tomorrow, hot dog!
