COMPLIMENT ほめる、ほめ言葉
- To compliment (verb) someone is to praise them.
The noun form is also compliment. - 動詞の compliment は、ほめる、という意味です。
名詞形も compliment で、ほめ言葉、という意味です。
- (client after a business presentation)
I'd like to compliment you on an outstanding presentation. You obviously did your homework. - It's always satisfying when a customer compliments me on how helpful and professional my staff is.
- You shouldn't hesitate to pay (= give) someone a compliment when they've done a good job.
- a: How do I look?
b: Oh, stop fishing for (= trying to get) compliments! You know you always look good.
