DOUBLE PLAY

  • In baseball, a double play is when two runners become “out” after the ball is hit.

Be Careful! The expression “get two” (ゲッツー) is Japanese-English and is NOT used to mean double play.

  1. The inning ended on a double play.
  2. They should have been able to make a double play, but the first baseman dropped the ball.
  3. Pitchers sometimes purposely walk strong hitters in order to set up a double play.
  4. We lost the game when Jimmy hit into a double play (= the other team made a double play after Jimmy hit the ball).
