ひとりっ子／シングルマザー／シングルファザー
- An only child is someone who has no brothers or sisters.
A single mother or single father is a woman/man who has children, but is no longer married (because of death or divorce) or was never married. - only child は、兄弟姉妹が１人もいない人、つまり、ひとりっ子のことです。
single mother または single father は、子供がいるけれど、（死別や離婚のため）今は独身である、または結婚したことがない女性や男性のことです。
- a: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
b: No, I'm an only child. - My daughter is an only child and my in-laws' only grandchild. She gets a lot of attention.
- My best friend and I are both only children, so we have a lot in common.
- a: Your little boy is sweet. How long have you been married?
b: Well, actually I'm a single father. His mother and I got divorced three years ago. - (at a job interview)
I'm a single mother with two small children, so I'm looking for something part-time.
