Some say that the best trips are spontaneous and unpredictable, while others prefer to spend hours on the Internet arranging every last detail. The WordMaster - always a fan of the middle way - believes there's value in both approaches!

PLANS   計画

  • If someone has plans for the evening, the weekend, summer vacation, etc., they've decided to do something or arranged to do something at that time.

Be Careful! We usually do NOT use the singular form “plan” in this way. For example, you should ask someone “What ARE your PLANS for Sunday?” not “What IS your PLAN for Sunday?”
  • has[have] plans と言うと、夜、週末、夏休みなどに、何かをすると決めている、または、準備している、という意味です。

注意:ふつう、このような用法の時には、単数形の plan は使いません。例えば、What IS your PLAN for Sunday? ではなく、What ARE your PLANS for Sunday? と言います。

  1. a: What are your plans for summer vacation?
b: I've signed up for an intensive French class, and a friend and I are going on a cycling tour of Provence in August.
  2. a: Do you have plans for the weekend?
b: Yes. Judy and I are going to Hakone for the day.
  3. a: Would you like to go dancing tonight?
b: Sorry, but I've already made plans.
