You already know this week's theme, so ... ready, set, GO, GO, GO!
GO BY (= pass) (時が)経つ、通過する
- If time, or a period of time, goes by, it passes.
If someone or something (for example, a car) goes by, it moves past you. - 時間や一定の期間について go by を使った場合は、経過するという意味です。
人や物、例えば、車などについて go by を使った場合は、それが通り過ぎる、という意味になります。
- That was the best vacation ever! And the time went by so quickly!
- (to his girlfriend, after meeting her at the airport)
The days went by so slowly while you were away. - After we were seated at our table, 20 minutes went by before the waiter took our order.
- I've spent a lot of time at that coffee shop. I really enjoy sitting at the counter by the window and watching the people go by.
- (policeman to a pedestrian)
Have you seen a black sedan go by here in the last 30 minutes?
Don't let a day go by without checking in with the WordMaster, okay?
