Today, the WordMaster is feeling DOUBLY possessive!!

Today's LessonCATEGORY:

Explanation

  • You can use the expression my own, if something belongs to you or if you did it yourself.

Be Careful! We usually do NOT use expressions such as “MY car” or “MY home” - like the Japanese マイカー and マイホーム - when talking about other people's things or things we don't have yet. Instead of saying, for example, “Do you have MY car?” or “I've always wanted MY home,” we can say “Do you have YOUR OWN car?” or “I've always wanted MY OWN home.”

Do you have MY car? や、I've always wanted MY home. Do you have YOUR OWN car? または、I've always wanted MY OWN home.
