For Life

Welcome, to the first WordMaster edition of the spring! Yes, the season of new life and promise has arrived - as have we by the looks of today's topic!

Today's Lesson

  • When an airplane returns to the ground, we say the pilot lands the airplane or the airplane and passengers land.

To land is also to arrive somewhere by ship or boat.

    The noun form is landing.
  • land とは、飛行機を着陸させる、または、飛行機や乗客が着陸する、という意味です。

    また、land には船やボートでどこかに到着する、という意味もあります。

    名詞形は landing で、着陸、上陸、という意味です。

  1. (passenger at airport, on the phone with a friend)
Where are you? My flight landed 15 minutes ago.
  2. It's amazing the pilot was able to land the plane safely without any landing gear (= the wheels on a plane)!
  3. (on the phone while on an arctic cruise)
We're really enjoying the cruise so far. Yesterday we landed at Churchill to see polar bears!
  4. The flight itself was pretty smooth, but we had a rough landing.
