When a company has no choice but to downsize its workforce, but doesn't want to resort to layoffs, it may try to reduce its payroll by offering employees certain inducements. Here's one such offer that employees may be willing to accept.

Explanation

  • Retirement is the act of stopping working, usually because you have reached a particular age - often 60 or 65 - or because your health is poor.

    It is also the period of your life that begins when you stop working.

    Early retirement is retirement before the usual age.
  • retirement とは、通例、一定の年齢(多くの場合、60歳か65歳)に達したり、健康を害したりしたために、働くことをやめること、つまり、定年退職のことです。

    また、retirement は、人生において仕事をやめてからの期間、つまり、退職後の生活をさすこともあります。

    early retirement は、一般的な定年よりも早く仕事をやめること、つまり、早期退職、という意味です。
