FLOOR vs. STORY   階 vs. 階層


  • We use the word floor to talk about a particular level of a building; for example, “the third floor”.

    We use the word story to talk about the height of a building; for example, “a ten-story building”.
  • floor は、建物の特定の階について話すときに使います。例えば、3階であれば、the third floor と言います。

    story は、建物の高さについて話すときに使います。例えば、10階建ての建物であれば、a ten-story building と言います。



  1. (customer at department store information counter)
    a: What floor is the toy department on?
    b: It's on the 6th floor.
  2. The top three floors of that building are luxury apartments.
  3. I live on the second floor of a five-story apartment building.
  4. Yokohama's Landmark Tower is the tallest building in Japan. It's 70 stories.
