Explanation

  • To have something ready is to prepare it so that it can be used, presented, eaten, etc. as soon as it is needed.
  • have something ready とは、必要になり次第、使ったり、提出したりできるように、または食べられるように、何かを準備しておく、という意味です。

examples

  1. (officer to passengers waiting to go through immigration)
    Please have your passports and boarding passes ready. Next in line, please.
  2. (mother to her son who is going out to play)
    I'll have dinner ready at 6:30. Be sure you're home by then.
  3. Are you sure you're going to have everything ready in time? The party is tonight, and you haven't even started decorating.
  4. (boarding a bus)
    PASSENGER: How much is the fare?
    BUS DRIVER: $1.25.
    PASSENGER: Do you have change for a ten?
    BUS DRIVER: I can't make change, sir. You're supposed to have exact change ready before getting on the bus.
