2007.03.27(Review of 2002.04.24 edition)
Hello, hello! It's great to see you again!
If you're driving from point A to point B, there's no doubt that you'll be doing a lot of this along the way!
PASS 通過する
- To pass a car, an exit, a sign, etc. on the road is to drive past it.
- pass は、路上の車、出口、標識など対象物を通過する、という意味です。
【NOTE】pass a carと言うと、車を追い越す、または、車とすれ違う、どちらの意味でも使うことができます。
- DRIVER: That truck in front of us is taking forever to get up this hill.
PASSENGER: Why don't you pass it? - (passenger to driver)
I think you'd better speed up. Cars keep passing us, and we're getting a lot of angry looks. - We live on a very quiet street. Sometimes a car won't pass for hours.
- (passenger to driver)
We just passed a gas station on the right. Maybe we should go back and get some gas there before we go any further. - (driver to passenger)
Were you able to read the sign we just passed? I hope we didn't just pass our exit.
Easy on the accelerator!
