2007.03.27(Review of 2002.04.24 edition)

Hello, hello! It's great to see you again!

If you're driving from point A to point B, there's no doubt that you'll be doing a lot of this along the way!

Today's Lesson
PASS   通過する

  • To pass a car, an exit, a sign, etc. on the road is to drive past it.
  • pass は、路上の車、出口、標識など対象物を通過する、という意味です。

    【NOTE】pass a carと言うと、車を追い越す、または、車とすれ違う、どちらの意味でも使うことができます。

  1. DRIVER: That truck in front of us is taking forever to get up this hill.
PASSENGER: Why don't you pass it?
  2. (passenger to driver)
I think you'd better speed up. Cars keep passing us, and we're getting a lot of angry looks.
  3. We live on a very quiet street. Sometimes a car won't pass for hours.
  4. (passenger to driver)
We just passed a gas station on the right. Maybe we should go back and get some gas there before we go any further.
  5. (driver to passenger)
Were you able to read the sign we just passed? I hope we didn't just pass our exit.
