SOFT SERVE (ICE CREAM)   ソフトクリーム

Explanation

  • Soft serve ice cream - also called soft serve - is lighter and smoother than regular ice cream and is usually squeezed out of a machine into a bowl or cone.

    Be Careful! We do NOT use the expression “soft cream” like the Japanese ソフトクリーム to mean soft serve ice cream.
  • soft serve ice cream は、普通のアイスクリームより軽くてなめらかなもの、つまり、ソフトクリームのことです。soft serve と呼ぶこともあります。たいていは、機械で容器やコーンに搾り出します。

    注意:soft cream(ソフトクリーム)は和製英語なので、soft serve ice cream の意味はありません。

  1. Whenever my parents took me to the amusement park when I was a kid, they would buy me a soft serve ice cream cone and cotton candy.
  2. (ordering at a fast-food restaurant)
    a: One cup of strawberry soft serve, please.
    b: I'm sorry, but our soft serve machine isn't working at the moment.
  3. a:  Which do you like better, regular ice cream or soft serve?
    b: I prefer soft serve. It doesn't make me feel so full.
