For Life

Greetings, and congratulations to everyone who celebrated their coming of age yesterday! The future is yours, and we're counting on you to make it a better and brighter one for all of us!

Although you don't have to be 20 to do it, getting your driver's license is a coming of age of sorts. That's why we're devoting the next three days to the automobile. So, once again, fasten your seatbelts and take a ride with the WordMaster!

Today's Lesson

  • The driver's seat of a car or other vehicle, is the part of the vehicle that the person driving sits on.

The passenger seat or front seat is the seat next to the driver's seat.

The back seat is the seat behind the driver's seat and front seat.
  • driver's seat とは、乗用車などの乗り物で運転者が座る席のことです。

passenger seat または front seat とは、運転席の隣の席のことです。

    back seat は、運転席および助手席の後ろにある席のことです。

  1. (a car rental agent showing a vehicle to a customer)
You can move the driver's seat back if you need more leg room.
  2. I used to let my dog ride in the passenger seat until they passed a law against it.
  3. (a child to his little sister)
I want to sit in the front seat this time! You always get to sit there!
  4. (a taxi driver to a group of four customers)
There's only room enough for three in the back seat, so one of you will have to get in the front.
