For Life
2006.07.25(Review of 2000.11.10 edition)

“What goes around, comes around.” And the same can usually be said of most trips ... but not always!

Today's LessonCATEGORY: 間違えやすいボキャブラリー

  • We use the expression one-way to talk about taking a trip in one direction only; in other words, going somewhere but not returning.

We use the expression round-trip to talk about both going AND returning.

Be Careful! We say “a round-trip ticket”, NOT “a round ticket”.
  • one-way は、一方向だけに旅行することについて話すときに使います。つまり、片道、ということです。

    round-trip は、往復について話すときに使います。

    注意: a round-trip ticketとは言いますが、a round ticket とは言いません。

  1. The fare from Tokyo to Osaka is about 14,000 yen one-way.
  2. a: How long will it take to get there?
    b: About three hours one-way.
  3. a: I'd like to buy a ticket to Sacramento, please.
    b: Are you flying one-way or round-trip?
  4. A round-trip ticket from New York to London costs about $600 on that airline.
