2005.05.24(Review of 2004.10.19 edition)
Here's a terrific expression to have in your English toolkit for business meetings and negotiations. Got a concession to make? Then here's the phrase to use!
BE WILLING TO 喜んで~する、~してもかまわない
- To be willing to do something is to be happy to do it or - when said less enthusiastically - to have no objections to doing it.
- be willing to は、何かを喜んでする、という意味です。言い方によっては、もう少し消極的な、~してもかまわない、という意味になります。
- I am willing to do anything necessary to keep this company alive. As CEO, it's my responsibility to do no less.
- I am willing to work on Sunday, but only if it's absolutely necessary.
- We'd be willing to lower the price by 20% if you made us your exclusive supplier.
- MANAGEMENT REP: Would you be willing to take a pay cut?
UNION REP: Absolutely not! - I'm sorry, but I wouldn't be willing to work overseas. It would be too hard on my family.
We're sure you'll agree that, at work, this is a useful expression of the highest order!
