Explanation

  • To do well is to do something in a way that is considered positive.

    To do poorly is to do something in a way that is considered negative.

    To do okay means to do something in a way that is considered neither necessarily positive nor negative, but somewhere in between.
  • do well は、仕事などをよくやっている、という意味です。

    do poorly は、不満足なできだ、という意味です。

    do okay は、肯定的でも否定的でもなく、その中間程度にやっている、という意味です。

examples

  1. (manager to new employee)
    You're doing well. Keep up the good work!
  2. a: How's the business doing?
    b: It's doing well. I think we're finally making a go of it.
  3. Hiro did poorly on his university entrance exams and didn't get into any of his first-choice schools.
  4. (supervisor to employee)
