It's good to be back here with you! This week will be devoted to all things summer: the good, the bad, and the positively disgusting!
HOLIDAY vs. WEEKEND 祝日、休日 vs. 週末
- In the U.S., we use the word holiday when talking about days - such as Christmas, New Year's, Thanksgiving, and the Fourth of July - when most businesses and government offices close.
We usually do NOT use holiday to talk about Saturday and Sunday. They are the weekend. - アメリカでは holiday はクリスマスや元旦、感謝祭、７月４日の独立記念日などの休日のことをさします。ほとんどの会社や公的機関は休みになります。
土日の休みには holiday は普通使いません。weekend（週末）を使います。

a: I'm going to the post office, now. Bye!
b: Wait a minute. The post office isn't open today. It's a holiday. - a: How did you spend the holiday?
b: We had Thanksgiving dinner at my mother's home. - I had a great weekend! I played rugby all day Saturday and read a wonderful book on Sunday.
