2005.06.01(Review of 2004.02.18 edition)
Hello! As you know, we're talking about weddings all this week, and today we meet the stars of our show!
BRIDE / GROOM 花嫁、新婦/花婿、新郎
- The bride and groom are the woman and man who get married during a wedding.
Be Careful! We always say “the bride and groom”, in that order. “The groom and bride” sounds unnatural. - 結婚式で、結婚する当事者の男女のことを、bride(花嫁)、groom(花婿)と呼びます。
注意:英語では、いつも the bride and groom という順番で言います。the groom and bride と言うと、おかしな感じがします。
- (a minister to the groom)
You may kiss the bride. - (someone watching a wedding)
What a beautiful bride! - I've always wanted to be a June bride.
- a: Who's that over there?
b: That's the mother of the groom. - The bride and groom looked very happy as they walked down the aisle together.
And they lived happily ever after ... or rather, statistics give them a 50% chance of doing so!
