  • To work out is to do physical exercise to get or stay in shape.

A workout is a period of physical exercise, or a series of exercises, that you do to get or stay in shape.

Be careful! We pronounce the verb work out with the main stress on the word “out”, but in the noun workout the main stress is on “work” .
