Shall we dance?

Today's LessonCATEGORY: Japanese English

  • Ballroom dancing  is a style of dancing for couples, with fixed steps and movements. It is danced to music such as waltzes and tangos.

    Be careful:
We do not usually use the expression "social dancing" like the Japanese 社交ダンス to mean ballroom dancing.  Ballroom dancing  is only one kind of social dancing.

  1. My parents started ballroom dancing  to stay in shape.
  2. The movie "Shall We Dance?" started a ballroom dancing  boom in Japan when it first came to the theaters.
  3. We went to Singapore to see the International Ballroom Dancing  Championship. It was a great vacation!
  4. People usually wear long dresses and tuxedos when they do ballroom dancing.

Maybe we'll sit the next one out!
