Explanation

  • To solve a problem is to find an answer to the problem.

    A solution is an answer to a problem.
  • solve  a problem は、問題の答えを見つける、つまり問題を解く、解決する、という意味です。

    solution  は、名詞で、解答、解決法、という意味です。

  1. (a teacher to her students)
    For homework, I'd like you to solve problems 5, 6, and 7 in your math workbook.
  2. (one student to another) 
    a: How did you solve problem 14?
    b: It's easy. Just multiply everything by 1/2.
