Explanation

  • To pollute is to reduce the beauty or safety of air, water, or land by making it dirty or by adding harmful substances.

    Pollution is the state of being polluted. It can also mean something that pollutes (for example, plastic in the ocean or harmful chemicals).
  • pollute は、空気や水、土壌などを、排気ガスや有害物質などで汚す、つまり、汚染する、という意味です。

    pollution は、公害、または汚染という意味です。汚染を引き起こす物、つまり、汚染物質、という意味もあります。例えば海に捨てられたプラスティックのゴミや有毒な化学物質などがこれにあたります。
